Contemporary furniture - Pierre Paulin

Pierre Paulin

Pierre Paulin, the designer of some of the most iconic furniture in the twentieth century, passed away at the age of 81 on June 13 in Montpelier, in southeast France.

His designs mostly created in the 60s and 70s are as timeless and progressive today as they were then. Paulin was famed for his unusually shaped chairs covered in colourful skintight, bright coloured upholstery, with names like ribbon, tongue or mushroom.
His work won widespread acclaim and found the way into major museums around the world.
Apart from furniture, he also designed interiors for the French presidents Pompidou and Mitterrand in the Elysée Palace in Paris. “He made design into an art form” president Nicolas Sarkozy said in a tribute to the designer.
His timeless pieces can be found amongst Ligne Roset and Artifort furniture ranges.
