Lisa Barrett, the blogger at Canberra's got Style, transformed an ordinary house lacking in architectural charm in Canberra, Australia, in a colourful and stylish home, featured in the Australian Home Beautiful Magazine in 2009. Lisa, who describes herself as an “interiors and fashion designer, stay at home mum, serial DIY maven and bargain hunter” designed an made most of the interiors herself.
A few highlights and ideas to “steal” from her home:
- Lisa was very clever about her interiors, she kept the basic décor and furniture neutral and used colour and bold prints on the items that can easily and inexpensively be changed, such as the soft furnishings and walls.
- Most of the soft furnishings are Lisa’s work, like the fabulous Amy Butler fabric Lisa turned in to throw for the living room couch.
- The stunning coffee table with a huge hand painted Camelia on top in the living room was designed and DIY’ed by Lisa in between her children’s naps.
- The three canvases you can see in the hallway are covered with gorgeous wrapping paper. Et voilá, instant artwork on a budget!
- I love the thrifted dining room chairs ($20 for the set of 4) which Lisa revamped with some cushions she made. What a bargain find!!
- The a fun and mobile toy storage in the family room was cunningly sorted with inexpensive "Ivar" boxes on wheels from Ikea, chalkboard painted.
- I love the thrifted retro bedside lamps and the rich plum she chose for the master bedroom accent wall.
Check out her Flickr set for more eye candy and while you’re at it, stop by her blog for fun, inspiring and stylish things you can find in Canberra.
