Flickr real life homes: Martha’s 1950’s Minneapolis home |

Martha McQuade the designer behind the label UNIFORM Studio, lives in three bedroom, 1950's home in Minneapolis with her husband and two sons. Martha’s home felt spacious, light and airy so it was a surprise for me to learn that in fact it is only 1,100 sq ft ( 102 m2 ) of area. It is very easy for a small house to look uncluttered due to lack of storage space, however, this is not the case for Martha’s home. Keeping things neat and organized was a huge concern for her and her husband therefore, clever storage was built-in to the various rooms. I love the makeover on L’s (the oldest son) bedroom. Martha wanted it to reflect his age and emerging interest: yellow (the beautiful Eames rocker), maps (the world map decal from Ferm Living), science, and birds. This resulted in a gorgeous bedroom full of personality for a little boy to grow up in. The dramatic use of black against the pristine white, such as the wallpapered accent wall in the master bedroom is also a favourite as is the beautiful screen from Vitra hanging against the black painted brick fireplace in the living area - absolutely stunning!
