Flickr real Life homes: Chez Larsson

No, I’ve not started to blog in French :), Chez Larsson translates to "At the Larsson's" which is also the name of one of my all time favourite design blogs. Benita is the über-talented lady in charge of this stylish household, where she lives in with her husband Martin, teenage son Wille and two cats, Mini and Bonus. Benita describes herself as “a neat freak, an organizing fanatic and someone who truly enjoys getting her hands dirty”, she also loves DIY, gardening and renovating, sewing and crafting. Benita works ( not sure how she gets the time for all of this  :) ) as a visual merchandiser, and has used her home as an experimental lab for her many hobbies.

When Wille was four (now 15) expressed his wish to have his own grass and that prompted the Larssons to look for a house with a garden. Fortunate circumstances brought together the former owner of the house they now live in, who was looking for a rental apartment in Stockholm (something hard to come by). The deal was good and the Larssons happily moved in to this little (82m2 + basement) gray 1930's house.

Because Sweden enjoys few hours of sunlight during the winter Benita chose white as the décor base for the home adding her favourite colours to the mix (green, turquoise, aqua and the most energizing yellow). This colour choice also allows her to “switch things around quickly from one colour theme or mood  to another with just a few changes of pillows and a couple of knick-knacks”.

I asked Benita about her favourites and she came back with the following: “I'm happiest with all the pieces we built ourselves such as the home office, the craft corner, the coffee table, the shoe cubbies, Wille's desk etc etc. I love them because they are bespoke and we've decided what we want and need and built them accordingly. You can't get that from a bought piece of furniture. Also there's pride in doing it yourself :)”.

It was very difficult for me to pick out any favourites from her home because there were too many to list, however, in an incredible exercise of self restraint I’ll mention only one: the round shaped coffee table her husband has made for the living room.

Not only does Benita decorate with an incredible sense of style but she is also budget conscious. A lesson to be learned from her is that things don’t need to cost a fortune to look good. Make sure you visit her blog where she shares tips and DIY tutorials for all the lovely projects the Larsson family undertakes.

Although they never made any major structural changes to the house, the Larssons’s have left their mark on all the corners of their home. Check out the full set of images in Flickr and choose your favourites.
