Aren’t these floors decofabulous?
The Art Deco style emerged in the mid 1920’s and took inspiration on elegantly balanced geometrical shapes. Checkered black and white floors became very popular back then and I am happy to see this 20’s retro vibe has made a comeback.

Cool TV rooms
Remember the days when we had to live with the bulky and horrible picture-tube TVs in our family rooms? Back in those days, any stylish living room décor meant having to hide the TV in a cabinet or built-in entertainment unit, well away from sight. No more of that! Now with the cool flat screen models people are no longer embarrassed to show off their TVs. Some of the new LCD TVs are design pieces in their own right and because they are slimmer and lighter, you can easily wall mount them in your family room or fit them in a cool built-in entertainment unit or above an elegant console or sideboard.

Obsessing about geometric patterns

Does greige put you to sleep?
Another favourite among my Twitter followers was greige. What is greige, some of you may be asking? Well, until recently I hadn’t heard of it either, so I looked it up: “greige is an unbleached and un-dyed cloth or yarn” but also “a colour blending gray and beige”. That’s when I went: aha, my living room is painted greige! I called it taupe at the time, but people kept looking at it and calling it either dark beige or gray. Now I can tell them it’s greige!

Pink bedrooms - Is pink for boys or girls?
Here is a bit of trivia for the guys out there now screaming ”Not in my bedroom!!”: ”In Western culture, the practice of assigning pink to an individual gender began in the 1920s. From then until the 1940s, pink was considered appropriate for boys because being related to red it was the more masculine and decided color, while blue was considered appropriate for girls because it was the more delicate and dainty color, or related to the Virgin Mary. Since the 1940s, the societal norm was inverted; pink became considered appropriate for girls and blue appropriate for boys, a practice that has continued into the 21st century. “ (Wikipedia).
